November 1

Exhibition «Maxim Kantor. WASTELAND. 15 Years After» was opened at the Institute of Philosophy

8 paintings and 15 etchings created by the artist in the 1980s are united into the exposition-reminiscences. It was here in the Institute of Philosophy that one of the first personal exhibitions of Maxim Kantor took place. The hot discussion of the acute polemic public position of the author and the expressive plastics of the works were about to bring the semiofficial event to the immediate folding.

Today, same as in the past the scientists-philosophers make the important share of Maxim Kantor’s audience. One of the characters of Kantor’s paintings, Alexander Zinoviev will take part in the discussion of the current exhibition (You can find his portrait here in the Tretyakov Gallery exhibition, “Pierro and Harlequin”, 2001).

The exhibition in the Institute of Philosophy has become the third event within the framework of Maxim Kantor’s exhibition program in Moscow: a large exposition “WASTELAND.The Atlas” in the Tretyakov Art Gallery (etchings, texts, paintings) gave the idea of the “environment of the artist’s interests”, “WASTELAND.The stages” in the “Ulitsa OGI” Gallery reveals the “image constructing” technology. And now “WASTELAND. 15 Years After” is the parallel measuring of time and artistic position.
